Visit to the UK by GWM (Malawi) Director, Patrick Chimbali

From 1 August to 10 December 2024, pastor Patrick Chimbali (founder and Executive Director of the work in Malawi) will be visiting the UK. Our UK trustees are excited to host him as he studies, cements ties with GWM UK and deputises.

The idea for Patrick’s visit emerged during UK Chairman Andrew Marsay’s visit to Malawi for the 10th anniversary celebrations in 2023, held in Chiole village where the work started in 2013. This short video gives a taste of that joyful time:

After 10 years establishing GWM’s in-depth Bible teaching ministry, Patrick expressed the need for spiritual refreshment and stimulation through contact with theologically like-minded people beyond his own country and cultural context. After prayerful planning, Patrick will arrive in the UK on 1 August for about 4 months. The trip will include:

·      Being part of local church life at Newcastle Reformed Evangelical Church where three of our UK trustees worship. He will be staying with one of the church families.

·      A semester of theological studies at Westminster Seminary UK, where he will be able to discuss the Malawi work with pastors and theologians.

·      Meeting Christians in various local churches, sharing his experience of pioneer evangelism in Malawi, and learning from their extensive Christian heritage.

·      Fellowship and refreshment with friends in this beautiful part of the UK.

·      A field trip to Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (5 – 12 October). Patrick will meet pastors of churches that have been planted into secular and/or Roman Catholic areas, and share his experience of preaching the Biblical gospel into areas in Malawi where ‘church culture’ is anything but Biblical. He will also meet leaders of the Munster Bible College to glean inspiration for a proposed Bible training institute in Mulanje.

On his return to Malawi in early December, Patrick will share lessons from his time of study and refreshment with GWM colleagues. In particular, they are hoping to draw on his experiences to finalise arrangements for the proposed ‘Mount Mulanje Bible Institute’.

Please pray this endeavour will enrich Patrick so he can strengthen the work on the ground in Malawi. If you would like to make a financial contribution you can do so here. Thank you.
